But onto the actual premise of this post: juice.
One time I went on a juice cleanse. I lasted 37 minutes. Like, I literally sat down, made a plan, bought, like, a million dollars worth of organic fruits and veggies, and then within minutes was like, “Fuck this shit, I need to chew something.” So I did. I chewed everything. I felt so deprived during those 37 minutes that I probably consumed a week’s worth of calories in the hour following.
Let me explain: when I’m told that I can’t have something, I want it immediately and with such intensity that I will risk all self respect and decency to get it. Even when it’s my own doing, I cannot be told no.
It really has been a life-long battle.
So rather than, you know, learning to overcome this epic flaw in myself, I’ve just decided to never tell myself never. (Wait, did I just say I never say never? Mind. Blown.) And in fact, I’ve found this is a much better way to live, because I now pride myself on moderation and balance.
So back to the juice. I love juice. Do I like juice for every meal? Hells no. But a few times a week? Yes, absolutely. It’s a great way to get a lot of nutrients in a small package; it’s fun to experiment with different fruit/veggie combos; aaaand it makes me feel like a total health yuppy, which is pretty fun sometimes.
Here are three of my fave combos.
Go Green Juice
This juice is, like, in-your-face bam! The green apple lends just enough sweetness to mellow out the bitterness of the greens and the tartness of the lemon.
What’s your fave juice blend?
Side note: how cute is my juice tester?
